Sop & Soto Khas Betawi Pak Kumis, Srengseng - Delicious Local Delicacy

It's difficult to write down a more indulging title for this post. I always imagine how great the taste is and the feeling I got after having this meal...

OK. This is basically a native Betawi (or Batavia or Jakarta) food. Best known as Soto Betawi. Not many people know that they used to have 2 type of serving, Soto and Sop. Both Soto and Sop is actually a soup. Indonesia has so many varieties of Soto and Sop. Especially in betawi, the different between Soto Betawi and Sop Betawi is that, Soto Betawi is using beef broth and coconut milk or milk, and Sop Betawi is only using beef broth and spices. Soto Betawi has thick soup and Sop Betawi has clear soup.

Soto and Sop Betawi both using parts of cow. Not just the meat, but also lungs, bowels, brain, feet, tripe and some other parts. However, normally the Sop will use any or all of those parts, and the Sop will use only the meat, the feet, or the tail, sometime the bones.

In this stall, not only they offer you with beef and other parts of cow, but also chicken and goat. Aside from those, Soto and Sop Betawi also consist of Emping (salty crackers), potato, tomato, and spring onion. People usually add some pickles made from cucumber, shallot and carrot, and put some lime juice on top of the soup.

As a street food stall, they provide the meal with a very reasonable price. Meals for 4 person will cost you about USD10. They also serve several types of drinks, but the most Indonesian type of drink is tea (hot or iced, sweet or plain), and my favorite drink here is freshly squeezed orange.
